And Jesus Wept

When Mary, the sister of Lazarus, came to Jesus, she said to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would never have died.” When Jesus saw her weeping, he was troubled in spirit and moved by the deepest emotions. “Where have you buried him?” he asked. “Lord come and see,” they said. And Jesus wept. This caused some of the family to remark, “See how much he loved him.” – From the Gospel of St. John –

Prayers

Father of all, we thank you for (name) and we pray to you for those we love but see no longer. Grant them your peace; let light perpetual shine upon them; and in your loving wisdom and almighty power, work in them the good purpose of your perfect will, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

O Lord, support us all the day long of this troublous life, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, the busy world is hushed, the fever of life is over, and our work is done. O Lord, in your mercy, grant us safe lodging, a holy rest, and peace at the last; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

You have ordered this wondrous world, O God, and you know all things in earth and heaven: so fill our hearts with trust in you that by day and by night, at all times and in all seasons, we may without fear commit those who are dear to us to your never failing love, for this life and the life to come, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. –
